Electrolysis for the PCOS client

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS is a hormonal imbalance in women of all races and ethnicities. Women with PCOS have more androgens than normal. Higher than normal androgen levels in women can prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulation) during each menstrual cycle and can cause excess hair growth and acne.

Too much hair on face, chin, breasts or parts of the body where men usually have hair is called "hirsutism". Hirsutism affects up to 70% of women with PCOS.

Electrolysis can help get rid of unwanted hair growth caused by PCOS. Removing hair with electrolysis will eradicate the dark shadow from leftover hair under the surface of skin after shaving, discoloration from tweezing, etc. Most clients say it helps them feel  comfortable in social settings and more confident in their skin, with less worry of constantly shaving and plucking.

How is PCOS diagnosed?

There is no single test to diagnose PCOS. Sometimes more advanced testing is required, typically you will need a referral from your doctor for a Endocrinologist. Some of the common tests may include: physical exam, pelvic exam/ultrasound and/or blood test.

Pain management during treatment

Everyone's pain threshold varies, majority of clients that have waxed/tweezed in the past are able to tolerate electrolysis. If needed, clients are welcome to use their own lidocaine numbing cream or can purchase from us. We recommend you apply it on clean, dry skin 45 minutes to an hour before your appointment.
